Watertown Sees Problems With New Sidewalks

sidewalk1.jpgThey’re basically brand new, but now sidewalks installed on parts of State Street in Watertown look like they need work.

The sidewalk slabs were poured just last year and already they’re starting to crumble on top.

The City Engineer’s Office has taken samples to try to figure out why it’s happening then figure out how to address the issue.

That’s true…we have had our share of cloudy weather, thunder and even some isolated heavy rainfall of an inch or so, but that’s nothing compared to the projection of 12-20 inches of rain from Hurricane Dolly in southeastern Texas.  So…should we count ourselves lucky?

mailbox.jpgThe St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department says a metal mailbox exploded in the town of Depeyster Wednesday after someone placed an explosive device inside of it.

Sheriff’s deputies believe it’s an isolated incident, but they’re cautioning people to be careful.

Police Looking At Surveillance Tape Of Robbery

robbery1.jpgA surveillance tape of an armed robbery at the Stewart’s Shops convenience store on Route 11 in Philadelphia might help state police identify the suspect, according to Senior Investigator Mike Pastuf.

Pastuf said a man, wearing an orange and white bandanna over his face, entered the store at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The robber displayed a handgun and demanded money.

Family Homeless After Fire

Volunteers from Potsdam, West Potsdam and West Stockholm responded to the call at 23 Sisson Street shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday.

State Disciplines Lowville Doctor

That’s according to the New York State Board for Professional Medical Conduct, which says Dr. Josefina Tan-Domingo has agreed to be monitored by another doctor and to get more medical education.

Study Shows Demand for Student Housing at Jefferson Community College

After months of questions and focus group studys, Jefferson Community College (JCC) is releasing the findings of a study asking if dormatories are necessary for the school.

The final report is a resounding yes; that students do desire living accommodations at the school and that there is potentially enough demand to support such a venture.

Soldier Sentenced for Driving His Vehicle into Crowd on Goodale Street

A Fort Drum soldier is going to prison for 18 months for driving his vehicle into a crowd of people in Watertown.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports that 23-year-old Kristopher Hendricks was sentenced following a two-day court martial.
