A mechanic who complained about the condition of UPS trucks in Watertown will get $254,000 for his troubles.
The mechanic - Dan Peterson - was fired by UPS after reporting that trucks at UPS’s Watertown facility were unsafe.
The federal government’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration announced Wednesday that UPS paid Peterson $254,000 and agreed to “not in any way interfere with, coerce or restrain its employees from exercising their rights…”
However, UPS admitted no wrong-doing.
“Employees are entitled to raise legitimate workplace safety and health concerns without fear of termination or retaliation,” said Louis Ricca Jr., OSHA’s acting regional administrator in New York.
“In this case, the settlement goes beyond one employee in one location and ensures that UPS employees throughout the Empire State are aware of this vital safeguard.”
