Harry D. Atkinson, 87, Watertown

Harry D. Atkinson, 87, formerly of Chestnut Street, Palm Coast Florida and Ararat, Virginia , died Thursday April 9, 2008 at Samaritan Keep Home where he had been a resident for three years.

Mr. Atkinson was born February 16, 1921 in Salisbury, Maryland a son of Arthur P. and Marie Townsend Atkinson. He was educated in Maryland. From August 28, 1942 until October 16, 1945 Mr. Atkinson was in the United States Army Air Corp. He married Correwn (Johnnie) Moore on May 22, 1942. Mr. Atkinson was the Director of Urban Renewal in the City of Ogdensburg from 1967 until 1969. From 1970 until 1979 he was a distributor for Hess and Eisenhardt Hearse Company, Black River. While living in Florida he owned and operated a real estate agency. He was a member of Watertown Noon Rotary, a board member of the Stuart Hospital, Stuart, Virginia and a member of the Stone Presbyterian Church.

Surviving besides his wife is a son and a daughter in law, Scott D. and Leslie E. Atkinson, Watertown, a granddaughter, Meredith G. Atkinson, a grandson, John D. Atkinson, several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Robert and Jack, and a sister, Florence Walker, died before him.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Rutland. Arrangements are with D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.
