North Country’s Finest: Stained Glass Windows

ncf1.jpgWhen people retire, some of them take up golf, others travel and still others spend time with their grandchildren.

David Martin of Ogdensburg has decided to enjoy his two years of retirement by cataloging stained glass windows in houses of worship across the north country.

“Every window has a story to tell and it varies from church to church, synagogue to synagogue, where ever you happen to be and all of the little images that you see in the windows, they all mean something,” said Martin.

He has visited churches throughout the north country - from Watertown to Malone.

In the future, Martin plans to publish a book and make his photographs available on a web site.

I found this report very interesting and agree that the art of stained glass must be preserved so future generations can enjoy and be inspired by the stories they tell. Fortunately, I had also discovered another photographer (Neil Ralley) who takes pictures of stained glass; his collection is quite extensive on the net - http://www.stainedglassphotography.com. It seems that this man shares David Martin’s passion for stained glass and has taken pictures of the windows from churches in England, New Jersey, and New York over a span of six years! It’s great that Mr. Martin is planning to publish a book on stained glass. More power to these two who give us the opportunity to view beautiful artwork!

Inspiring and wonderful! We have referred to this report on our blog, which is dedicated to exploring stained glass and the art of light. Please contact us if this is not okay; however, we’re so excited about this report we hope you’ll allow us to keep it. Thank you Mike Boyce, and thank you very much David Martin!
