Harriet Ida Petrovitz, 85, Lowville


Harriett Ida Petrovitz, 85, of Shady Avenue, died Thursday morning, March 27, at her home.

A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Lowville Rural Cemetery with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, pastor of St. Peter’s Catholic church, officiating.

Born Feb. 11, 1923, in the town of Greig, a daughter of the late Edward A. and Marion Dunn Burdick, she attended General Martin School.

She married Julius “Pat” Petrovitz on Dec. 10, 1941, in Port Leyden, with Rev. Wetzel officiating.  He died Feb. 14, 1966.

Mrs. Petrovitz worked in housekeeping at Lewis County General Hospital for 25 years, retiring in April 1983.

She was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Petrovitz enjoyed playing her organ, and the companionship of her daughter’s dog, Banjo.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Robert Ross, Lowville; a grandson, Richard R. Ross of Lowville; a brother, Milton Burdick, Tonawanda; two sisters, Wilma Dailey, Adams; and Margaret Newman, St. Augustine, Fla,; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Three brothers, Gearald Burdick, Leland Burdick, and Donald Burdick, and three sisters, Marion Casey, Lucille Tennant, and Geraldine Gleason, all died before her.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville. A gathering at the Lowville VFW, West State Street, will follow the funeral service.  Spring burial will be in the Lowville Rural Cemetery. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
