Jean D. Bartholomew, 80, Gouverneur
Jean D. Bartholomew, age 80, of Gouverneur, died on May 2, 2008 in the emergency room of E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur after being stricken unexpectedly at her home.
Jean was born on January 20, 1928 in Gouverneur, a daughter of the late Lawson and Margaret (Hill) Davidson. She went to school to the old West Side Elementary in Gouverneur before graduating from Gouverneur High School in 1946.
She married Donald A. Bartholomew on October 18, 1967 at the Gouverneur Presbyterian Church with Rev. Joseph Schofield officiating. Donald died on October 15, 1981.
Mrs. Bartholomew lived in Gouverneur for most of her life. She worked for Simon’s Coal Co. and later for J.E. McAllaster Oil Co. as a fuel manager, calculating the distribution of fuel oil, for about fifteen years. Jean is an elder of the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church and, together with her brother John, managed several rental properties.
Jean’s survivors include two brothers; John D. Davidson – Gouverneur and Dr. James Carl Davidson – Hendersonville, North Carolina, and a sister, Mary Mead – Prineville, Oregon.
There will be a graveside service in Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur at a date and time to be announced later. Donations in Mrs. Bartholomew’s memory may be made to the Gouverneur First Presbyterian Church, 22 Church St., Gouverneur NY 13642 or to the Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
