John J. Riott, 66, Degrasse
John J. Riott, age 66, of Degrasse, NY, died on May 2, 2008 at 8:35 p.m. at Canton-Potsdam Hospital under the loving care of his wife and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
John was born on April 2, 1942 in Butler, PA, the son of the late Joseph J. and Virginia M. (Sherman) Riott. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 until 1964.
He married Sylvia E. Dunn on January 28, 2006. A previous marriage ended in divorce. He was an educator in the New Castle School district in PA until his retirement in 1999. He and Sylvia moved to Degrasse in 2005.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son John J. Riott, II and a daughter Christina T. Riott both of New Castle, PA where they are both enrolled in Westminster College. John is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law; Carol A. Blasko and Pamela S. and John Rudiak all of Butler, PA and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a sister Juanita J. Rensel.
Viewing and visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 at French Funeral Home, Edwards on Friday, May 9, 2008. All are invited to the Russell Town Hall for supper between afternoon and evening visitation on Friday.
There will be no funeral service. John’s body will be cremated after visitation and his cremains kept by his wife.
Donations in John’s memory may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley, 6805 US HWY 11, Potsdam NY 13676. Arrangements are thoughtfully entrusted to French Funeral Home.
