Authorities Looking for Driver of Vehicle Carrying Large Quantity of Contraband Cigarettes

Police are looking for the operator of a car that was carrying 200,000 contraband cigarettes on the Canadian side of the Akwesane Mohawk Reservation.
Akwesane Mohawk Police pulled a car over that was operating in a suspicious manner on International Road.
The driver fled the scene and police found cardboard boxes filled with 1,000 bags of cigarettes valued at $22,000.
Cornwall Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Sgt. Michael Harvey says the illegal cigarettes were believed to be manufactured in the United States and were not properly packaged or stamped.
Police say they seized the cigarettes and the 2003 Chevrolet Impala that was registered to a Cornwall, Ontario resident.
The investigation is continuing.
