Former Fire Department Treasurer Enters Guilty Plea In Theft

scales-justice.jpgA Theresa woman pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Court Thursday in connection with the theft of $15,000 from the Oxbow Fire Department.

Last May, Christina Cunningham of 31540 County Route 194 was charged with one count each of third-degree grand larceny and first-degree falsifying business records.

Investigators said her arrest followed a complaint from officers with the Oxbow Fire Department that close to $15,000 was missing from their bank account.

Cunningham was the former treasurer for the department.

She allegedly withdrew funds from the fire department’s account over a one year period by cashing checks from the department’s checking account.

In court Thursday, Cunningham entered an Alford plea, which means she admits no wrongdoing.

She pleaded guilty to petit larceny.

Her sentencing is set for June 30.
