North Country’s Finest: A Green Thumb Worthy of Envy
Howard Leitner is a popular man when the snow melts and the green begins to show through.
But the lengthy process begins in the fall.
Based in Turin, Leiter began planting perennials as a way to give some away to friends as gifts.
However, his garden quickly turned into one of the most coveted patches of land in Lewis County.
He and his family now produce over 95 varieties of North Country tough perennials, totaling over 4,000.
Leitner says that his customers are like family, returning every year for the flowers and to share a story from the winter.
