Virginia S. Volovic, 93, Lowville and Watertown


Virginia S. Volovic, 93, formerly of Lowville and Watertown, died July 15, 2007 at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, FL.

Mrs. Volovic was born April 21, 1914 in Schenectady, NY a daughter of Louis and Rose Spadaro Cassella.

She graduated from Nott Terrace High School and attended Union College both in Schenectady. She moved to Lowville in 1943.

During World War II she was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in Lowville where she met Dr. Gregori O. Volovic.

Dr. Volovic was born in Orengrod, Russia and came to the United States as a young man.

He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and joined the staff of the Lewis County General Hospital in 1917.

The couple married and were members of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lowville.

Dr. Volovic operated his medical practice until his death in 1963.

The following year, Mrs. Volovic moved to Watertown.

While living in upstate New York, Mrs. Volovic was a dedicated volunteer at local hospitals.

She later moved to McLean, VA and volunteered at the Georgetown University Hospital.

In 1977 she moved to Ormond Beach, FL where she volunteered at the Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Ormond Beach, and enjoyed boating, photography and traveling.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons in law; Patricia Minotti, Bradenton, FL, Linda and Dr. William Kuhn, Ormond Beach, FL, Shelley and Ernie Garlem, Kalispell, MT, Grisha Taylor, New Smyrna Beach, FL, a niece Mrs. Roland (Rosemary) Faulkner Jr., Niskayuna, NY, seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. A sister Anna C. DeRocher died before her.

A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday June 14, 2008 at Brookside Cemetery with Reverend Ed Murphy, pastor of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lowville, officiating.

Contributions may be made to a Hospice of one’s choice. Arrangements are with D.L.Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.
