IDa M. Jewett, 88, Brownville
Ida M. Jewett, 88, formerly of 27634 Route 12, town of Brownville, died May 18, at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where she had resided since Nov. 5, 2003.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home.
A prayer service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the funeral home followed by a funeral service at the Smithville Baptist Church at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place in the Smithville Cemetery.
Born Feb. 21, 1920, in Smithville, daughter of Leon S. and Margaret Parker Sackett, she attended school in Adams.
Following school, she married Donald F. Jewett of Watertown on Nov. 7, 1936, at the Methodist Parsonage in Philadelphia by the Rev. George Uphan.
Mrs. Jewett was a homemaker. Her husband, Donald, worked for the NY Central Railroad.
He then served in the Army and upon his discharge in 1946, he and his wife moved to Copenhagen, where they purchased a farm which they owned and operated until 1957.
The couple moved to Watertown in 1957. In the early 1950s Mrs. Jewett worked at Gibson‘s Laundry until the early 1960s. She then worked at Calavo’s Fruit Processing in Sackets Harbor as a packer and processor from 1965 up until she retired in 1984.
Following her retirement, the couple spent 17 years wintering in Dade City, Fla.
Mr. Jewett died Feb. 7, 1997.
Mrs. Jewett enjoyed gardening, knitting, and playing cards.
Among her survivors are two sons and three daughters-in-law, Donald E. and Marcia A. Jewett of Watertown, Judy A. Jewett of Brownville, Thomas C. and Frances P. Jewett, Watertown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Cecil and Yvonne M. Thompson of Limerick, Bernard and Diane E. Martin of Champion, Linda B. Jewett, Watertown; 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Two sons, Dalon Jewett died in infancy, and Kilton W. Jewett died March 22, 2008, a sister, Jennie Seegers, a brother, George S. Sackett, and a grandson, Thomas C. Jewett Jr., all died before her.
