Your Turn: Your Feedback On School Budget Defeats & Hughes’ Sentence

Voters in the Carthage Central School District overwhelmingly rejected a nearly $50 million spending plan.
Here’s what some of you had to say:
“The high school has been a perennial capitol project since the mid 90’s. If they have to cut jobs, so be it.”
Bill LaRose
“The smart thing for the district to do is to try to rework the budget and present it back to the taxpayers. It would be a shame to see the school board turn its back on the community with a contingency budget.”
Erin
“Though I voted ‘no’ because of my recent ‘reval’ on my property, I was more concerned with the out of control spending at the school. There are many lines in the budget that could be cut, teachers could and should pay more for healthcare.”
Matt Thomas
Voters in the Norwood-Norfolk Central School District defeated the proposed budget there. The district is embroiled in a contract dispute with teachers who are concerned over possible job cuts.
We received this email on the subject:
“The teachers from NNCS have taken the first round of cuts in their department, now it is the administration’s turn…to make cuts in their department if they want the budget to pass.”

Heather Hughes, who is pregnant with twins, was sentenced for the criminally negligent homicide of 10 month old Megen Perham.
Megan’s mother is upset that Hughes was sentenced to only 6 months in jail and 5 years probation.
Here are some of your messages:
“How is she is she going to know the seriousness of her situation with such a short sentence? I also think she shouldn’t have any contact with her kids after they are born because if she did this to someone else’s child, who knows what she would do to her children.”
Candie Newton
“The punishment this girl received is a joke. I hope somebody has the intelligence to take her twins away from her when they are born.”
Jennifer Palumbo
“My heart goes out to Megen’s mother. I am a mother myself and I would want someone who killed my baby in jail for life.”
