currier2.jpgJust days after throwing their hats into the ring for the 118th District Assembly seat, two candidates for the Democratic ticket have pulled their names out of the running.

Massena Police Chief Tim Currier held a news conference Friday to withdraw his candidacy.

He said the timing wasn’t right.

Instead, Currier endorsed Jefferson County Legislator Addie Jenne Russell, a Democrat, who is running for the office.

St. Lawrence County Chair June O’Neill was also in attendance.

O’Neill, who’s also the state Democratic Party chair (meaning she has a lot of say in party politics), said another candidate has dropped out of the race.

Democratic Macomb Town Council member Laureen O’Toole declared her candidacy just days ago, but has withdrawn, according to O’Neill.

O’Toole (pictured below) was not immediately available for comment.

The withdrawal of Currier and O’Toole means there will not be a Democratic primary for the assembly seat.

On the Republican side, Clayton Town Board member Bobby Cantwell is running for the office.

Canton Town Supervisor David Button is considering it.

Don Lucas of Massena is running as an Independent.
