Three Teens Charged In Gravel Pit Vandalism

State police in Carthage have charged three teenagers in connection with damage that occurred at two area gravel pits this past weekend.
The trio allegedly damaged vehicles and equipment at a gravel pit leased by Jerry Reed on Putman Hill Road in the Town of Champion.
The suspects are:
- Caleb D. Cobb, 19, 36027 State Rt. 26 Carthage, NY 13619, who was arrested at the scene of the crime on Sunday evening and was charged with one count each of Criminal Mischief-3rd Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle-3rd Degree, and Trespass. Cobb was issued appearance tickets returnable to Champion Town Court on July 10 and will face the additional charge of Resisting Arrest upon his arraignment for attempting to flee the gravel pit in his vehicle, before being apprehended by a Jefferson County deputy who had responded to the scene to assist State Police
- William L. Spellan, 18, 30124 State Route 3 Black River, NY 13612 who was also arrested at the scene Sunday evening, and charged with one count each of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle-3rd Degree and Trespass. Spellan was issued appearance tickets returnable to Champion Town Court on July 10
Joseph D. Palladino II, 17, 35695 Jackson II Road Carthage, NY 13619, who was located and arrested on Wednesday morning, was charged with one count each of Criminal Mischief-4th Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Trespass. Palladino was issued appearance tickets returnable to Champion Town Court on July 10 and will face the additional charge of Resisting Arrest upon his arraignment for fleeing from Troopers at the scene
The three were also charged in connection with a damaged vehicle at Champion Materials, Inc. located on Cole Road in the Town of Champion.
Cobb was charged with one count each of Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle - 3rd Degree and Trespass.
Palladino was charged with one count of Trespass.
Spellan was charged with one count each of Criminal Mischief-3rd Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle-3rd Degree and Trespass.
Cobb was also charged with Burglary-3rd Degree relative to the theft of a laptop computer from a scales building at Champion Materials.
The theft, which occurred earlier this month, was reported to state police Monday morning.
Cobb was arraigned in Carthage Village Court on Monday and released on on his recognizance to await possible grand jury action.
State police were assisted Sunday evening at the Putman Hill Road gravel pit crime scene by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department and the West Carthage Police Department.
