Three WWNY-TV reporters took first place awards from the New York State Broadcasters Association. The group holds an annual competition for radio and television news organizations across the state.

Reporters Caroline Tucker and Jessica Cain won first place in the best spot news category for their coverage of a police standoff on Plaza Drive on Watertown’s outskirts last August, in which a young woman shot herself in her car.

Taking first place in the category of best hard news story was reporter Jeff Cole. His series, called “Gone”, examined the loss of hundreds of thousands of gallons of aviation fuel at Wheeler Sack Army Airfield and the Army’s reaction. It resulted in chages to their procedures for handling fuel and bookeeping discrepancies in the future.

Here’s a link to Jeff’s series on the website.
