The controversial superintendent of the Carthage Central School District announced last week that he’s leaving to accept a new job.

Carl Militello will become the superintendent for the Niagara-Wheatfield School District.

Here’s a sampling of messages on the subject:

“Thank you for leaving our school with a large mess. I hope Niagara-Wheatfield School District does not regret their decision.”

Adam

“He’s someone else’s problem now. Good riddance.”

Carthage Area Hospital wants to put a 6,000 square foot medical building on the site of a 2002 fire in the village. The facility would house pediatric and OBGYN services.

Here’s a couple of your emails:

“What is gonna happen to the homes in the residing building left from the State Street fire? It is not fair to remove the families from their homes that they just now are getting settled into.”

Katie Camidge

“What I don’t understand is why the hospital wants to spend more money on things like this, but they don’t want to pay their workers, they want to take away vacation time, personal days and make them pay for their own health insurance.”

Jefferson Community College is studying the possibility of building dormitories for its college students.

This is what some of you had to say:

“It would be great if JCC offered dorms. With the cost of gas and the cost of and lack of housing, it would be a very smart move for the college.”

Julie Davenport

“It’s about time that the college looked into housing for the students. My son is a graduating senior and a big reason for choosing other schools for his classmates is that they want to live away from home in a college that has student housing to experience the ‘college lifestyle’.”

“Our kids, their money and brains leave the area for higher education and most of them do not return. That is not good for them or the future of our area. We need a 4-year college here.”
