Nellie G. Barr, 77, Cape Vincent
Nellie G. Barr, 77, of 475 Bay Street, died Monday June 30, at the River Hospital, Alexandria Bay.
She was born, December 25, 1930, in Dexter, the daughter of Emory W. and Christine VanAlstine Timerman.
She graduated from Dexter Schools and married Arthur M. Barr, June 26, 1949. Mr. Barr died, September 23, 1993.
Mrs. Barr worked as a cook for a number of Cape Vincent Restaurants and in the Cafeteria at Cape Vincent Elementary School. She also worked as the bookkeeper for the Cape Vincent Adult Home.
Surviving are a son, Edgar Barr, Cape Vincent; three daughters and three sons in law, Esther and Danny Coolage, North Carolina, Christine and Mike Cantwell, Clayton and Jeannine and Ron Player, Cape Vincent; a brother Gordon Timerman, Dexter and a step Brother, Earl Cox, Cape Vincent; a step sister, Shirley Gushlaw, Clayton; 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A daughter Jacqueline Barr died before her.
She was a member of the Cape Vincent American Legion Post Auxiliary, Cape Vincent Fire Dept. Auxiliary, past Chairperson for the Crafter of the French Festival, and Cape Vincent Citizen of the Year in 1978.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in Riverside Cemetery, arrangements are with the Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent.
Donations may be given in her memory to the Cape Vincent Ambulance Fund or the American Cancer Society.
