Watertown Fire Department Asking Motorists to Be More Cautious

The Watertown City Fire Department is asking motorists to be more careful and slow down around fire scenes.
Fire Chief Dan Gaumont says that one of his men was nearly taken out by passing traffic as he attempted to attach a hose to a fire hydrant along Arsenal Street.
Crews were fighting a fire at 129 Breen Avenue today and the closest hydrant was along the busy street.
Gaumont says that many cars did not slow down at all, even driving over the hose.
“Running over the hose damages the hose, we now have to test that piece of hose,” he said.
While the fire was contained and eventually put out, Gaumont warned that people who do drive over a hose in operation can be fined.
