Robert J. Taylor, 77, Alexandria Bay and Watertown

Robert J. Taylor,77, 21889 Sunset Ridge, died Sunday, July 6, at his home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Born September 9, 1930 in Alexandria Bay the son of Robert V. and Jennie M. Timmerman Taylor he graduated from Alexandria Bay High School and St. Lawrence University with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and was a Korean War Veteran. On June 16, 1986 he married Nancy Hart.

His entire career was in the insurance business, beginning as an underwriter with the Agriculture Insurance Company to becoming a partner in Northland Agency in Watertown and retiring as a Commercial Lines Manager for A.W.A. Inc. Lynbrook, New York.

Mr. Taylor served as President of the Independent Insurance Agency of Watertown Inc. and was on the Board of Directors as a Regional Vice President for the Independent Insurance Agents of New York and on the National Board of Great American Insurance Company.

He was the Commodore of the U.S. Power Squadron and also served as the District Lieutenant of District Six U.S. Power Squadron.

He was active many years in the Dry hill Ski Patrol and was the first member of the Patrol to receive a national ski patrol n umber. He also was a charter member and First Vice president of the Watertown Model Railroad Club.

He enjoyed model railroading, woodworking and reading. Among his fondest memories are summers as a guide on the tour boats out of Alexandria Bay.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife Nancy, three children, Elizabeth Taylor and partner Teresa Dobbins, Gaithersburg, MD; Lisa and husband David Lord, Gansevoort, NY and John Taylor, Fairfax, VA; stepson, Christopher Neher and wife Heidi, New York, NY and one Granddaughter Patricia Lord.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc.. The funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Barnes Settlement Cemetery.
