Vermont Writer’s Sojourn
I just returned from a residency in the MFA writing program at Goddard College in Plainfield Vermont. It is an eight day intensive stay on the college campus with about a hundred other students and faculty. The program is specifically designed for working stiffs like myself so we are able to pursue a graduate degree without giving up the fantastic day gig. There are many great things about this innovative, yet grueling program. One thing is that writers from several different genres are all on campus at the same time. Poets, Fiction writers, non-fiction writers, screenwriters and playwrights interact together. I’m just starting my second semester, with the brilliant playwriting teacher, Deborah Brevoort.
The Goddard Campus, with the historic Clockhouse at the center is located on the former property of the Greatwood Farm and is registered on the National Historical Register.
Plainfield is located in Central Vermont about ten miles from the quaint State Capitol, Montpelier. Montpelier is a picturesque New England town and with about 8,000 people is the smallest state capital in the nation. Vermont is gorgeous this time of year and the golden domed state house stands out colorfully against the green mountains behind it.
I also visited the tiny hamlet of Hardwick in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, and watched fireworks on the Fourth of July from a friend’s Victorian Porch.

Lake Ontario Playhouse Puts On “Forever Plaid”
This is a story of guys across the country who banded together to sing in the basement for fun. Inspired by the success of recording stars, they made plans to zoom into careers of fame and fortune. But the musical taste of the USA was changing, and would not stop to listen to their dreams. This is the story of such a group - Forever Plaid
