Sidewalk Work Underway On Public Square
Print This Page
Trying to get anywhere on foot in downtown Watertown is going to be a challenge for awhile.
Crews have begun what is considered to be one of the biggest parts of the Public Square Streetscape project - the sidewalks.
They’re laying concrete on the south side of the square first and then will move to Washington Street.
The work will take up to six weeks to finish.
Crews are trying their best not to inconvenience local businesses and foot traffic.
“We’re going to make access to every active business. That’s our main goal,” said Streetscape Project Manager Ken Lanning.
Lanning asks anyone who uses Public Square to bear with crews while sidewalks are being replaced.

What? They are tearing up the square??! It’s under construction!? This is news?? You might as well be telling us that the grass is green and the sky is blue. We have been up here for three years and that downtown area is a disgrace. You can put in all the fancy sidewalks and new streets you want - but until your city planners, Chamber of Commerce and mayor try to bring in better businesses and get serious about the downtown area - it will remain a mess.
IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE WANTS EVERYTHING PERFECT TO THEIR APPROVAL BUT NOT WANTING TO GIVE A LITTLE TO GET IT. I HAVE A PERSONAL INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT AND CANNOT THANKS EVERYONE INVOLVED FOR DEALING WITH ALL THE UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS AND DELAYS THEY HAVE ENCOUNTERED. WE HAVE AN EXCELLENT CREW WORKING FOR US AND SHOULD BE VERY THANKFUL. tHEY HAVE DEALT WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC IN A VERY RESPONSIBLE WAY AND SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR IT. I DO REALIZE THAT MANY OF US DO GO THROUGH THE TOWN OUT OF CURIOSITY (AS i DO MYSELF) WHICH DOES HINDER CONSTRUCTION.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WHEN IT IS COMPLETED WE WILL HAVE SOMETHING TO BE VERY PROUD OF.
