North Country’s Finest: Cemetery Restoration
Print This Page
Some of St. Lawrence County’s earliest settlers, along with veterans of the War of 1812, Civil War and World Wars I and II, are buried in the Russell Village Cemetery.
The historic graveyard had fallen into disrepair.
But, a Norfolk couple decided something needed to be done.
“We had such a time looking at the markers and so forth, we sat down and maybe we could have it restored,” said Theron Given (pictured).
Given and his wife, Jean, and a dedicated group of friends, raised thousands of dollars in grants and donations to clean up and repair the cemetery.
