There had been speculation that Massena’s General Motors Powertrain plant would remain open a few months longer than expected, but a spokesperson from GM in Detroit told 7 News that the automaker still plans to close the plant in December.

“Concerning the Chevy Cobalt and the L61 engine block that is produced at Massena, this block is in production at the Saginaw, Mi. plant. When it is in full production there, Massena will not be needed. GM is not eliminating the part, only moving it to another location.”

We also asked for your thought’s on Andrea Friedman’s special series “Why Do Things Cost So Much?” One of the issues she addressed was the price of fuel.

“The solution has always been alternative fuels, but there has always been so much opportunity for excess profits in oil that no one ever wanted to look in that direction.”

Soon there may not be enough bus drivers to go around. It’s an industry-wide problem that’s affecting companies in the north country.

“With the declining population of New York state, as well as the ever increasing requirements places on the school bus driver, it is harder all the time to find someone interested in this occupation.”
