Soldiers at Camp Victory, Iraq, are remembering 25 year old Sergeant Alex Jimenez of Massachusetts and 19 year old Private Byron Fouty of Michigan.
A memorial to the two 10th Mountain Division soldiers stands outside the Multi-National Division - Center headquarters.
In May 2007, the two were reported kidnapped and missing after their unit was ambushed in Iraq.
The bodies of the men were found earlier this month.
Monday’s ceremony included a “21-Gun Salute” as other soldiers stood in formation.
On hand for the memorial was the commander of the 10th Mountain Division, Major General Michael Oates, who is currently leading 19,000 troops in Iraqi missions.
Jimenez and Fouty were part of a patrol that was ambushed south of Baghdad on May 12, 2007.
They were members of the 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team.
The families of the dead soldiers say they were told the bodies were found by Iraqi authorities and identified by dental records by the Armed Forces Medical Examiner.
