Mailbox Explodes In St. Lawrence County

The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department says a metal mailbox exploded in the town of Depeyster Wednesday after someone placed an explosive device inside of it.

It happened on County Route 10.

Sheriff’s deputies believe it’s an isolated incident, but they’re cautioning people to be careful.

Last fall the sheriff’s department investigated a number of life threatening bottle bombs being placed in mailboxes .

Soda bottles filled with chemicals turned up in the mailboxes of residents in Madrid and Ogdensburg.

There was no word on whether officials believe the latest incident is connected to last fall’s bottle bombs.
