“Cooperation between federal, state, and local law enforcement is critical in the fight to protect our country from terrorism. Operation Stonegarden provides the funds necessary to protect our northern border, and I cannot overstate the importance that this $3.71 million in funding will have in furthering those efforts. I am extremely pleased that the Department of Homeland Security chose to provide these funds to the 23rdDistrict,” said Congressman McHugh.
“Local officials in Jefferson, Clinton, Franklin, and St. Lawrence Counties have continued to step up and protect our communities, and this funding will enable them to purchase better technology to more effectively and safely do their job.”
Congressman McHugh announced the following Operation Stonegarden funding awards:
- Jefferson County - $1.63 million
- Franklin County - $1.47 million
- Clinton County - $330,000
- St. Lawrence County - $280,000
Operation Stonegarden focuses on enhancing law enforcement preparedness and operational readiness along the land borders of the United States by providing grants to designated localities to enhance cooperation and coordination among federal, state, tribal and local law enforcement agencies to secure the United States’ land borders.
This funding supports land border jurisdictions in achieving a greater capability to prevent, protect against, and respond to border security issues, encouraging local operational objectives and capabilities to enhance Federal and State Homeland Security Strategies, and continuing the distinct capability enhancements required for border security and protection.
