Betty J. Thornton Nadelen, 57, Philadelphia


Betty J. Thornton Nadelen, 57, formerly of Philadelphia, died Tuesday, July 29, at the home of her son, Brett Eggleston, Roswell, Ga., while under the care of her family and Hospice of Atlanta, Ga.

Born June 9, 1951, in Watertown, daughter of the late Stanley F. and Bernadette M. Lawler Thornton, she graduated from Indian River High School, Philadelphia, in 1969.

She worked various jobs, including the New York Air Brake and Ann’s Restaurant, both in Watertown, and local banks.

She later received an associates degree with honors from Jefferson Community College and a bachelor’s degree in Special Education with honors from SUNY 0731nadelenobit.jpgPlattsburgh. She was employed at Harbour Middle School in Ellicott City, Md. for two years and Dickerson Middle School in Marietta, Ga., for five years.

Previous marriages ended in divorce.

Ms. Nadelen enjoyed shopping, reading and spending time with her family.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Brett Jon and Anna Eggleston, Roswell, Ga., and Chad Ivan and Karin Eggleston, St. Johnsville, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Aiden, Gabrielle “Elle”, Deegan, Sydney, Ethan and Anderson; two brothers and their wives, Francis and Ellen Thornton, Philadelphia and Michael and Jane Thornton, Ft. Myers, Fla.; five sisters and four sons-in-law, Barbara Pollack and her companion Robert Symes, Cookville, Tenn., Patricia “Patty” and Robert McKeever, Antwerp, Mary and Morris Gleason, Theresa, Theresa and James Hewitt, and Monica and Charles Lynch, all of Philadelphia; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Philadelphia, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Evans Mills. Calling hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., 38422 Route 37, Theresa.
