New DVD Releases This Week
The Children’s Fantasy movie Nim’s Island highlight this week’s theatrical releases.
Abigail Breslin stars as Nim, a young girl with an active imagination who lives on an isolated island with her father. She lives her life through her favorite series of adventure books, but when her father goes missing, a series of events bring her face to face with the reclusive author of the adventure books, Jodie Foster. Gerard Butler also stars as the fictional hero.
Other theatrical releases out this week include The Counterfeiters, the Academy Award winner for best foreign film,
and the documentary Pete Seeger: The Power of Song.
One straight to DVD release this week that’s causing a buzz among Sci-Fi fans is Starship Troopers 3: Marauder.
This sequel to 1997’s Starship Troopers actually has one cast member from the original movie: Casper Van Dien.
However, according to the recent reviews, the movie contains nothing else of any redeeming value. But hey, if you like that stuff…
TV releases on DVD this week include one show that should have been released last month with its theatrical counterpart.
“Get Smart - Season 1″, starring Don Adams and Barbara Feldon finally hits the stores.
This spy spoof show from the mid 60’s was created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, and it mocked the spy movies of the day (James Bond, Derek Flint, Matt Helm, etc.)
Remember the shoe phone, and the cone of silence? “Sorry about that, Chief!”
Other TV shows released on DVD include the HBO series “Entourage - The Complete Fourth Season”, plus
“Family Ties, Season 4″
“Prison Break - Season 3″
“South Park: The Complete Eleventh Season”
“The Love Boat - Season 1, Volume 2″
“Route 66 - The Complete First Season”
“The Wire - The Complete Fifth Season”
and “Star Trek The Original Series - The Complete Second Season” (The version with the revamped special effects)
