Town of Pamelia Cannot Legally Give Rebates, But Finds Alternative to Give Back to Residents
Print This Page
The Town of Pamelia planned to give over $300,000 in tax rebate checks to its residents.
However, New York State stepped in, saying that plan, while a nice gesture, was illegal.
The town council would need the approval of the State Senate or Assembly to give rebate checks.
However, there is relief on the way for residents in Pamelia.
The town board has a fire tax taht the town will now cover out of its general fund.
In January, there will be no fire tax on residents’ bills.
The remaining amount from the $300,000 will remain in the town’s general fund.
