Frederick C. O’Brien, 71, Chaumont
Frederick C. (Buzz) O’Brien, 71, of Madison St., Chaumont died August 21, in his home after a brief illness, while under the care of Hospice of Jefferson County.
Known as Buzz to many, Frederick was born in Black River, September 29, 1936 the son of Frederick Clarence and Elizabeth Kenealy O’Brien. He graduated from Black River Schools in 1954.
Married Joan Elizabeth Belcher at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Brownville, September 26, 1959.
Mr. O’Brien served in the US Army Resever from 1957 to 1964.
Mr. O’Brien received an Associate in Electrical Technology from SUNY Canton ATC in 1962. He was employed with Bell Labs, Whippeny, NJ and by Xerox in Rochester, NY.
The couple moved to Chaumont in 1968 and he worked for Niagara Mohawk for 25 years in Watertown, retiring in 1998.
He also owned and operated O’Brien’s Dockage and Storage, Chaumont, for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Penny Ann O’Brien and Kathleen Marie Revelle, both of Chaumont; a son and his wife Frederick (Charles) and
Heather O’Brien, Chaumont; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Mike Revelle and Riley and Ethan O’Brien, all of Chaumont; four sisters and three brothers in law, Margaret and William Fien, Rush, Barbara and Alexander Koprowski, Suffern, Ann O’Brien, Black River and Ellen and Richard Engle, Cato; two brothers and a sister in law, James and Rosalie O’Brien, Black River and Thomas O’Brien, Winston-Salem, NC; several nieces and nephews.
Community was an important aspect of his life.
He was elected to three terms on the Lyme Central School Board, five terms to the Chaumont Village Board of Trustees, Village Planning Board, of which he was Chairperson. He was on the board of Cedar Grove Cemetery Assoc. of which he was President for many years.
Frederick was a member of Chaumont Masonic Lodge #172, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and the Chaumont Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, August 26, at 11:00, at the Chaumont Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Rachel Roberts, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the Becker- Cleveland Funeral Home, Chaumont.
