What has been rumored for months is now official.

Kinney Drugs is moving out of Watertown’s Washington Street Plaza and moving down the street.

The business plans to relocate to the former Coca-Cola distribution center at 1304 Washington Street.

Kinney officials say the building will be renovated rather than torn down.

Construction is expected to begin next month.

The grand opening is set for the first quarter of 2009.

Kinney Drugs, the leading healthcare organization in New York and Vermont, has plans to relocate its Washington Street Plaza store. Construction should begin in mid-September with the grand opening in the first quarter of 2009.

The new Kinney Drugs will be located at 1304 Washington Street; formerly the Coca-Cola Distribution Center. The new location will be a modern 11,300 square foot stand alone store that will provide more convenient parking and a broader range of products and services to Kinney customers. Kinney has four stores in the Watertown area with the Washington Street store being the third remodel/relocation in the market.

With this new layout, the pharmacy department will be expanded to include a pharmacy drive-through, a pharmacist consultation area, and a larger waiting area. The relocated store will also bring a wider range of convenient products and services to the area including: expanded health care products, new cosmetic lines, an expanded selection of groceries and frozen foods, full seasonal offerings as well as a digital photo kiosk and an expanded Hallmark greeting card section.
