Mike Kinne, mayor of Sackets Harbor, said it is a win win situation for the village to improve one of its biggest assets and for the college students who will polish their skills.

Ideas for the park included bringing out the historical aspects and continuing to build on its status as a center of the community.

Some of the possible projects include reconstructing a historic ship, renting canoes or kayaks or launching a tour boat.

The project is part of Sackets Harbor’s Go Green initiative, which will include environmentally friendly materials and methods.

In the end, the hope is that the process will benefit the community as well as the students.
