Attorneys for the defense and prosecution presented their opening statements in the Michial Foster murder trial Tuesday.
He’s accused of murdering Alicia Wasilewski 12 years ago.
Assistant District Attorney Aaron Carr painted Foster as a jealous man who killed Wasilewski because she left him for another man.
Defense attorney Gary Miles said his client wouldn’t have had enough time to commit the murder according to the timeline laid out by witnesses.
Two witness took the stand Tuesday.
Bambi and Darrell Cole, Wasilewski’s relatives, testified about seeing Foster at Alicia’s home in Watertown the day she went missing.
They both told the court that Foster was sweating profusely and his three year old daughter was crying.
Darrell Cole talked with the little girl and testified, “I heard her say, ‘My mommy’s dead.’”
Police believe Foster strangled Wasilewski in 1996.
Her remains were found just outside the city of Watertown last year.
The trial is expected to last more than a week.
Jurors will listen to testimony from 40 or more witnesses.
