Morristown Charges Another Amish Man With Code Violation

Another Amish man has been issued a violation for building without a permit in the Town of Morristown.

Peter Swartzentruber of Ireland Road becomes the 12th member of the Old Order Amish sect to be charged by town Code Enforcement Officer Kay Davis.

Swartzentruber will be in court November 6 for arraignment with an interpreter who speaks Pennsylvania Dutch.
The Amish men are all charged with either building or moving homes and building an Amish schoolhouse without a permit.

The judge hearing the case is reviewing motions by St. Lawrence County Assistant Public Defender Steven Ballan to step aside from hearing the cases, move the cases to another court jurisdiction or dismiss the charges altogether.
