The Office of the New York State Attorney General says it’s aggressively pursuing the contractor, METS, and how it was conducting business on Fort Drum.
Former employees of METS, which stands for M&E Technical Services, are now filing complaints accusing the contractor of misleading hiring practices and putting workers’ safety at risk.
Here are some of your messages:
‘This is a pretty sad, but not uncommon story of contractors taking advantage of a job-starved population.’
Ralph Myers
‘They told us they were going to build a permanent facility off post and we could probably get a long term job. They lied to us on a daily basis about how much work we were going to have.’
Nick Schaefer
‘I am the wife of a former METS employee. We have five children at home and the benefits alone were much needed, along with the thought that we could actually pay for heat this winter.’
Sharon Hughes
‘I worked there for eight days. I have a little girl on the way and they just took advantage of all of us.’
Tim Gaba
‘I left a good job that was steady because they made this one sound like a good opportunity. Now I am unemployed for the first time in 15 years…They lied to us.’
Walter Oppermann
‘I was planning on using the money I made to pay off my student loan and go back to college.’
Dustin Buckley
