Robert A. King, 75, Lowville
Robert A. King, 75, died on Monday, October 13, 2008, at his home on Sharp Street while under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Born on October 3, 1933, in Fairfield, Maine the son of the late Wilfred A. and Anna J. Schubach King, Bob earned a BS in Business Education from the University of Maine and an MS in Education from SUNY Potsdam.
He served with the United States Marine Corp as a medic.
On August 27, 1960, he married Carolyn E. Emery at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in
Fairfield, ME.
The couple moved to Lowville in 1963, where Bob began his teaching career with Lowville Academy until 1969.
In the fall of 1967, he began his college teaching career part-time in the evening division and in 1969, was hired as an Assistant Professor by Jefferson Community College and was soon promoted to Associate Professor of Sociology in 1976.
Throughout his teaching years, he was the recipient of several awards including the Phi Theta Kappa Outstanding Teacher Award and in 1971, the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1976, and performance awards in 1985, 1987 and 1990.
While at JCC, Bob served as chair of the Social Science Department from 1992-1993, and 1993-1994.
He also served for many years as the faculty advisor to the Judicial Board of Review and helped found the Criminal Justice Organization for which he was faculty advisor for many years. Bob retired in1996.
He also served as Justice for the Village of Lowville for 32 years.
Bob was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment #754, American Legion Post #1663 of Croghan and the Lowville BPOE Lodge #1605. He was a six-year member of the Northern New York Parade Music Judge’s Association. Bob especially enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, boating, fishing, and traveling.
A funeral mass will be said on Thursday, October 16, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, pastor officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the Sundquist Funeral Home, 7676 State Street, Lowville, NY, on Wednesday evening October 15, 2008, from 5-8 p.m.

In addition to his wife, Carrie of Lowville, Bob is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Rebecca King of Lowville and three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa A. Murphy of Jamestown, NY, Cathy A. and Jed Schneider of Manilus, NY, Amy L. and Luke Lyndaker of New Castle, ME; his sister, Patricia A. Shea of Fairfield, ME;
7 grandchildren and a nephew.
