McDonald’s Wizard of the Week: Greg Herbst
July 28, 2008
A University of Kansas import, Herbst is this week’s honorary wizard.
His offensive productivity has increased as the season moves into the playoffs and he is working on making the adjustment from aluminum bats to wood.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Herbst has been impressed with the New York baseball challenges.

John Northrop is making the transition from player to coach for the Watertown Wizards.
He is currently serving as assistant coach for the team and has had four years of experience in the league.
As third base coach, Northrop is looking to increase his knowledge and make a career in baseball.

McDonald’s Wizard of the Week: Jake Gorman

Watertown Wizards second baseman Jake Gorman is this week’s highlighted Wizard sponsored by McDonald’s.
Gorman is adjusting to life in the North Country and is performing strong on the field every week.
His batting average is .291 with a .380 on base percentage.

A product of Eastern Illinois, this college standout has been making plays at shortstop and at the plate for the Watertown Wizards.
He’s adjusting to Watertown and its different style of play from collegiate league and the variety of competition helps him develop his skills.
His father was a pitcher for the Phillies in the triple A division and hopes to live a pro-career of his own.

Wizard Of The Week: Keli’I Zablan

In his weekly segment ‘Wizard of the Week’, Mel Busler has a profile of one of the baseball team’s most versatile players.
Keli’I Zablan is a native of Hawaii and has been put into use as shortstop, outfielder, pitcher and second and third base player.
Since the Wizards’ season began two weeks ago, Zablan has hit one homerun.
He comes to the area for the summer from Southern Utah University.

He comes to the area for the summer from the University of South Carolina.
Sam credits his father for encouraging him to play the game.

Athlete Of The Week: Casie Lingenfelter

Casie Lingenfelter is a standout softball player at Alexandria Central School.
The high school senior holds her school’s record for strikeouts in a single game, in a year and in a career.
She plans to play softball at Cazenovia College next year.
Lingenfelter’s leadership has earned her the McDonald’s - 7 News High School Athlete of the Week award.

Athlete Of The Week: Brittany Moody

Brittany Moody is a track star at South Jefferson Central School.
The high school senior is undefeated in the 100 hurdles and pole vault.
She’s also the anchor of the undefeated 4 x 100 relay team.
Moody’s leadership has earned her the McDonald’s - 7 News High School Athlete of the Week award.

McDonald’s Athlete Of The Week: Sam Bradman

Sam Bradman has had a stellar career as a lacrosse player at Canton Central School.
Just this year alone, the high school senior has chalked up 51 goals and 34 assists.
There have been single games where he has scored six goals.
Bradman has also won a scholarship to play lacrosse at Salisbury State University in Maryland.
His leadership has earned him the McDonald’s - 7 News High School Athlete of the Week award.

Dan Magovney is a talented baseball player for Immaculate Heart Central School.He leads his team in batting average, on base percentage, hits and stolen bases.
A four-year varsity performer, he was a member of a state championship team last year.
His leadership in his team’s offensive categories has earned him the McDonald’s - 7 News High School Athlete of the Week award.
