Puff Daddy Cu

May 15, 2008

That would be the hip hop name for today’s clouds…large, puffy cumulus.  Of course we also had a lot of sun between the clouds but no good hip hop name is available for sunshine.  if you think of  one, e-mail me.

Let us turn our attention to Friday…pretty fine forecast.  It should feature a mix of clouds and sun and a high in the low to mid 60s.

We will experience a weather mass change for the weekend as low pressure moves down from Canada dragging a substantial cold front through the area.  Saturday will be cool with scattered showers and maybe a rumble of thunder.  Sunday looks to be even cooler than Saturday with more scattered showers.

Medium range models suggest the cool and unsettled air mass stays with us through Tuesday of next week.  Don’t shoot me I’m only the piano player!

Join me tonight at 6pm, 10pm, 10:30pm and 11pm for all the forecast details.

This Too Shall Pass…

May 15, 2008

A rainy start to the day, but don’t let that bring you down.

Today - Drizzle rain will push through and make way for partly sunny skies, temperatures reaching into the 60s.

Tonight - Temperatures dropping, making it a little chilly, temperatures in the 30s.

Tomorrow - Partly cloudy, but sun will make an appearance. Temperatures in the 60s.

Tune in to Meteorologist Rick DeFranco tonight at 6 for the latest on the North Country’s weather!

Timing Is Everything

May 14, 2008

It’s true for most things in life including weather.  The timing of tonight’s cold front has allowed us to have a nice Wednesday and should pull out fast enough to clear the skies out for a pretty decent Thursday.  Friday is looking OK…a little sun, a few clouds and in the low 60s.

The weekend….ah, the weekend….I can pretty much guarantee it will be cool.  We should top out around the mid 50s…give or take a few degrees.  But will it rain?  Maybe.  I know that isn’t the answer you want but the atmosphere doesn’t always work in absolutes.  The mathematical models I use in making my forecast are all over the place.  Some models show enough instability and lift to pop off showers both days…other models show mostly cloudy but mainly dry.  Having said that, I think we will see at least a few scattered showers both days.

Join me at 6pm, 10pm, 10:30pm and 11pm for all the forecast details.

I Know It’s Only Sun, Not Snow, But I Like It

May 14, 2008

Today - You won’t need that umbrella for most of today unless its to keep the sun from burning your skin.  Clear skies and temperatures reaching well into the 70s.

Tonight - But you may need that umbrella tonight with the North Country expecting some showers, but it won’t last.  Temperatures in the 40s.

Tomorrow - Maybe some morning showers, but it should end and reveal clouds and sun, temperatures in the 60s.

Tune in to Rick DeFranco for the latest on the weather for the week!

Everything Is Going UP!!!

May 13, 2008

Bad when we are talking gas and food prices…Good when it’s your 401-k and afternoon temps.  Here is a thought,  It’ll be warm enough tomorrow to leave the gas loving car in the driveway and bike to work.  Good for your waist and your wallet.

We should have sun for most of the day Wednesday, a nice breeze and a high in the upper 70s.  By late in the day clouds should increase and we have a pretty fair chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm tomorrow night.  Possibly a leftover shower Thursday morning then back to sun by afternoon but we fall back to normal temps in the mid 60s.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be cooler…much cooler.  How does 55 grab you?  And at least a 30% chance of showers through the period.  We won’t have a ton of sun, either…it looks to be mostly cloudy into Monday.

Watch me at 6pm, 10pm, 10:30pm and 11pm for details.

We Must Be Living Right!

May 12, 2008

For the past several days, stormy weather has been all around us but we have escaped unscathed.  And we should continue enjoying decent weather through Friday.   Thank goodness we are missing that mess to the south…we have enough natural disasters in our area…they’re called January and February.

I know you are wondering about the weekend.  Keep in mind we can do pretty well predicting temperature TRENDS 5 days out, but sky conditions is a whole other deal.  Right now it looks to be much cooler (bet on it) with a good chance of showers Saturday through Sunday (don’t bet your first born on that one) and windy conditions to boot.

Join me for all the weather details at 6pm, 10pm, 10:30pm and 11pm.

Lovin’ Life!

May 9, 2008

Nothing like a sunny Friday to lift you up to the stratosphere…or at least the tropopause.  And the weekend is still on track to be pretty nice, too.

We will be skirted by an upper level disturbance to our south on Saturday,  so from time-to-time we’ll have more than a few clouds for Jefferson and Lewis but in St. Lawrence, you should be far enough north to stay mostly sunny.  Mother’s Day on Sunday looks sunny through the morning with clouds increasing in the afternoon.  If we get any rain at all I don’t expect it before Sunday night.  Weekend temps will be about average in the low 60s.

The early part of next week will be cooler and a bit unsettled.
